What does it cost?

Each time a product design is submitted to have it assessed, a once-only “application fee” is to be paid. Regardless of the outcome, the application fee for each product design amounts to
€ 250,- (Price level 2009). The assessment starts the moment payment has been received.

For the use and the international protection of the trademark, an annual fee (retention fee) is due. This retention fee amounts to € 100,- per annum. The product designer can buy out the “retention fee” at an amount of ten subscription years, being a lump sum of € 1000,-. If the “retention fee” has not been paid for over a year, the Foundation can decide to withdraw the designation. The unpaid use of the trademark is subject to legal action by the Foundation.
